Those with some grey hair like me might think eSports refers to a person from Yorkshire’s exercise regime, but I asked my 10-year-old and he says eSports is the fastest growing sector in the AV industry.
At ISE this year Panasonic combines its latest broadcast and live entertainment products to create an eSports arena that attendees can actually participate in. Watching other people play computer games is my idea of purgatory, but it appears I’m in a minority, and millions of 10 to 20-year olds with disposable income would rather watch eSports than Sky Sports.
As with eSports, Panasonic have one eye on the future with their use of what they describe as an IP/IT based workflow which provides the backbone of their ISE offering. With IP/IT connected equipment, vision mixing, and video routing are done by software rather than expensive custom hardware. Equipment can be controlled from any device on the network. SDI, HDMI, Video resolutions, framerates and colour-space can all be converted to data and travel through commercial, off the shelf hardware like switches from Cisco.
Panasonic’s broad and brilliant range of PTZ cameras can all be controlled and send pictures via IP. This makes them the perfect acquisition tools for this next generation infrastructure. In addition to the PTZ range the latest generation of highly portable camcorders from Panasonic are also capable of being controlled and sending video over a network via NDI HX too. At home in an operator’s hand or on a tripod the AG-CX350 and brand-new AG-CX10 both have this capability. With the ability to stream video wirelessly or via ethernet these camcorders produce excellent pictures which can be recorded in camera or sent though networks to their ultimate destination. Perhaps they should be called eCameras?
