Brighton local TV selects Panasonic

Panasonic technology has been chosen by Brighton TV for its studio and locations production needs when the channel goes live later this month.

The new broadcaster has invested in a range of P2 camera equipment, and will use HPX250 and PX270 camcorders for news gathering and location reporting, while adapted HPX255 units will provide camera facilities for the seafront TV studio.PX270

Standardising around 10-bit

“Standardising around Panasonic is about investing in 10-bit, broadcast quality kit,” said Andy Nichol of Brighton TV. “Quite simply it means delivering the highest standards to our audience. One of the real advantages of the Panasonic kit is flexibility: they offer great performance in all environments and lighting conditions, and are ready for use in multi-camera shoots.”

In the studio, the HPX255 is designed to deliver full remote control of camera functions and recording. With an adapter unit, the system supplies power to the camera and provides return images and signals including mic and intercom. The camera can also operate as an ENG system when not tethered to the studio.

The HPX255 cameras will be studio-controlled using Datavideo’s MCU-100 handheld unit. Designed to manage four cameras, it gives the producer access to recording, gain, black/white balance, pedestals, shutter and iris controls, with signals transmitted over low-cost Cat-5 cabling.

The station was also supplied with a Blackmagic Design Hyperdeck Studio video recorder as well as Cambo studio pedestals.
