Atomos Ninja Phone: Giving creators the power to monitor, connect, collaborate, and record on the world’s best display

Ninja Phone is a unique new device that works with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max to combine the benefits of high-quality mirrorless or DSLR cameras with the flexibility of the world’s most advanced phone. Together this gives creators the ability to monitor HDR on the best display on the planet, with zero latency from their camera to the iPhone’s screen. Plus, benefit from access to all of their iPhone’s connectivity to social media platforms, collaborative workflows, and more! There’s never been a more powerful video production system with such a small footprint.

How does it work?

Ninja Phone encodes to high quality ProRes by taking the 10-bit 4:2:2 image from the camera sensor via HDMI and sending it directly to the iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max screen where users have full control over the image and access to the powerful suite of Atomos monitoring tools. Thanks to the iPhone 15’s amazing retina OLED panel, when combined with Ninja Phone HDR monitoring becomes a reality, giving users a true representation of what the camera is capturing and more control over their content on set. User can also choose whether to stream, collaborate or record directly from the app.

Atomos Ninja Phone

The Ninja Phone App

Atomos isn’t new to touchscreens - the original Ninja had one! But iPhones take them to another level, with the native iPhone app to control and configure Ninja Phone. Atomos have made it work the way you’ll want to use it - so if you’re shooting vertical 9:16 video, the app goes vertical too. It’s easy to use in either orientation. It’s slick, responsive, and makes the Ninja Phone and the iPhone feel like they’re a single, integrated device. Work collaboratively with other video professionals. Start editing while you shoot. Get almost instant approval from clients. Publish to social media within minutes of taking the shot. And even produce multi-camera live TV from anywhere, to anywhere, with Atomos Live Production. Ninja Phone creates new business opportunities by expanding the reach of Atomos solutions to a broader audience.

Who is it for?

In a world where content is king, the need for quality has never been greater. Despite everyone having a camera phone in their pocket, creators continue to invest in mirrorless and/or DSLR cameras to deliver professional results. Ninja Phone allows these customers to further improve their creative process, by adding a toolset in an iPhone app format which feels familiar and intuitive and the flexibility to use their iPhone as a monitor as and when they need to. This small and lightweight device has the potential to make a big impact on the content captured and workflows controlled by a wide range of filmmakers, videographers, and content creators.

What stands out?

Incredible Image Quality with HDR Monitoring

Ninja Phone’s 10-bit HDR pathway offers incredible image quality to users with over a billion more colours than 8-bit video, and twice the color resolution. HDR monitoring allows creators to visualise their content with unparalleled fidelity – a true “see what you see” experience.

Seamless connectivity

Whether streaming to social media, uploading proxies to a C2C workflow or going live, it’s never been easier to stay connected from an Atomos device.

Endless possibilities / Unlimited Potential

The Ninja Phone’s iPhone app understands 9:16 portrait mode and adjusts automatically to accommodate it. Plus, with the full suite of Atomos monitoring tools. Ninja Phone app includes amongst others focus peaking, Zebra, False Colour, Waveform monitor etc. And have control over your recording format and full connection flexibility.

Lightweight

Ninja Phone is a super-light 94 grams. Combined with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s an incredibly slim 334 grams.

10-bit, 4:2:2 pipeline

Professionals demand 10-bit, because it shows accurate colours and removes contours between similar colours - so a blue sky looks real, and not like a painting-by-numbers picture. With 8-bit 4:2:0, you’re throwing away the subtlety and nuance, often leaving visible steps. You can’t repair that. Atomos solve this problem by not causing it in the first place.

Latest chip technology

AtomIC 5, the next generation of Atomos silicon that allows for low power consumption and silent operation. The new chip also has exceptional USB-C connectivity that provides both connection and power.

Recording flexibility

Record ProRes master files and H.265 proxies for full quality or encode 10-bit H.265 only from the Ninja Phone for the simplest, fastest workflows. The choice of 10-bit ProRes and/or H.265 is yours. Alternatively, the iPhone’s storage can be used, allowing users to choose how they share their content. Record into the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in 1080p60 either in Apple ProRes or H265 from Ninja Phone.

To summarise, the Ninja Phone is highly versatile thanks to its HDMI input it’s compatible with a range of top camera brands. It provides the worlds best monitor in a compact, lightweight design that incorporates external monitoring, recording, collaboration, and streaming.
